Innoviris funds eight circular economy innovation projects for over 1.1 million euros

19 January 2026

Innoviris announces the approval of funding for eight circular economy innovation projects led by Brussels-based companies and organisations as part of the Circular Innovation: Re-Use & Recycle 2025 call for projects and R&D projects and Feasibility Studies funding, for a total amount of €1,156,693. Selected from 24 applications, these innovation projects illustrate the dynamism of Brussels-based companies committed to waste reuse and recycling, which are at the heart of the transition to a more circular and resilient economy.

The circular economy as a strategic regional lever

In the context of increased pressure on resources and high volumes of waste in urban areas, innovation in the circular economy is a strategic lever for strengthening the competitiveness of Brussels businesses while reducing their environmental footprint. With the support of the Brussels-Capital Region, Innoviris offers entrepreneurs the opportunity to test the technical and economic feasibility of innovative circular solutions before rolling them out on a larger scale.

This public support helps to remove key uncertainties associated with the exploitation of often complex waste streams and to bridge the critical gap between innovative ideas and viable economic activity.

Concrete projects promoting reuse and recycling

The eight projects selected cover a wide range of urban and industrial waste streams and offer innovative solutions with high potential impact, including:

  • Construction and metal waste, through the reuse and recycling of materials from construction sites and urban metal streams, such as bicycle frames, as well as the development of innovative sorting and circular logistics services directly on site
  • Textile waste, in particular technical, multi-material and bio-based textiles, through advanced recycling processes aimed at removing the technical barriers to their recovery and structuring local circular supply chains
  • Plastic waste, in particular expanded polystyrene, through low-carbon transformation processes that produce industrial-grade secondary raw materials
  • Food and organic waste, including urban and agri-food bio-waste, reused in new materials or low-carbon inputs for applications in sectors such as construction.

These initiatives help to reduce residual waste volumes, structure new local material recovery channels and strengthen the territorial anchoring of the circular economy in the Brussels-Capital Region.

Circular Innovation, at the heart of regional transition strategies

The Circular Innovation call for projects is fully in line with regional priorities, in particular the Regional Circular Economy Plan, the Shifting Economy strategy and the Regional Innovation Plan, particularly the strategic area of "Optimal use of resources".

Through this instrument, Innoviris confirms its role in supporting experimental projects that create economic, environmental and societal value and contribute to a concrete transition towards more sustainable production and consumption models.
