The Jean Massart Botanical Garden was created in 1922 by professor of botany Jean Massart at the Université libre de Bruxelles. Today, it is owned by the Brussels-Capital Region. In collaboration with Brussels Environment, ULB is developing an educational programme for the general public and schools, as well as scientific research activities.
The living collections of the Garden are dedicated to scientific research, university teaching and the dissemination of knowledge. They are home to around 2,000 plant species. The activities proposed by ULB aim to raise awareness among young people, in particular in schools without suitable infrastructure or laboratories.
