Choose Belgium: Laure Alix Clerbeau talks about her research journey in Brussels
In this new episode of ‘Choose Belgium’, we hear from researchers who have chosen Brussels and Belgium to develop their scientific projects and advance research.
Among them is Laure Alix Clerbeau, professor of biochemistry and nutrition at UCLouvain. Her work focuses on the impact of food and drink on human health, with a particular interest in the gut-liver axis.
Following professional experience in Switzerland, working at the interface between hospitals and laboratories, and subsequently with the European Commission in Italy, she chose to return to Brussels with the ambition of developing a new field of research. Thanks to support from the Prospective Research for Brussels programme, she was able to build on her expertise and secure a permanent academic post.
In this video, Laure Alix Clerbeau explains why Brussels is a particularly favourable environment for scientific research. Situated at the heart of Europe and at the crossroads of multiple disciplines, the Belgian capital offers an ecosystem conducive to innovation, international collaboration and the emergence of new ideas.
This video is part of the ‘City of Innovators’ series and forms part of the European ‘Choose Europe’ initiative, launched by the European Commission to make Europe more attractive to researchers from around the world. This initiative is being rolled out in coordination with Member States to attract and retain scientific talent on the continent.
In Belgium, the ‘Choose Belgium’ campaign is coordinated by BELSPO. In particular, it highlights researchers supported by the Brains for Brussels programme run by Innoviris, which helps to strengthen scientific excellence and the appeal of the Brussels-Capital Region.
