As co-founders of the Brussels-based startup Lileo, they are developing a smart, intuitive breast pump, supported by a companion app. Their goal: to provide mothers with the best possible conditions to breastfeed and express milk: at their own pace, on their own terms.

“Breastfeeding is intense. We want to build technology that supports, not disrupts,” says Jérôme. Lileo’s discreet and user-friendly device is designed to meet the real needs of today’s mothers. Comfort, autonomy, and accessibility are at the heart of their approach.

Brussels as a care tech ecosystem

The Brussels Region plays a key role in Lileo’s story. The city offers access to high-skilled talent, strong innovation networks, and a fertile ground for socially-driven entrepreneurship.

“Lileo contributes to Brussels in three ways,” explains Jérôme. “We create jobs in R&D and local production. We help position Brussels as a pioneer in care technology. And we adopt a circular economy model through rental, making the product more affordable and sustainable.”

A boost from Innoviris

Support from Innoviris allowed Lileo to scale faster. The funding enabled the team to hire key talent, invest in intellectual property protection, and work simultaneously on both product development and business operations.

“That dual-track development – product and business – is rarely possible in an early stage,” says Anastasia. “With this support, we could build a strong foundation.”

At Lileo, innovation isn’t just technological. It’s social. “We want to give women more choice, without it feeling like a compromise,” she adds.

What’s next?

Lileo is finalising its prototype and preparing a first round of user testing. The rental model will be launched in Brussels first, with plans to expand in the future. It’s a human-centered innovation, rooted in its city.
